For attorney David R. Novak, personal injury law is a passion. Since 2000, he has persistently fought for accident victims and has successfully litigated cases. 


He takes his role as a counselor seriously. As an integral part of the Wilson & Novak Law Offices legal team, David enjoys getting to know his clients and work diligently to help each person who walks through the doors. 


For over twenty years as a lawyer, he has helped individuals who have suffered injuries in vehicle accidents, slip, and fall accidents, semi-truck crashes, airplane crashes, chemical exposures, chemical burns, industrial injuries, workers compensation matters, medical malpractice or when they were hurt by an individual’s or company’s negligence. He adamantly fights for full compensation because it helps people start anew.

David has represented clients in personal injury cases in state and federal courts, with a passion for getting them the justice they deserve.

Local Roots in Northwest Indiana

As a lifelong region resident, he prides himself on community involvement. David grew up in Hammond, Indiana. He attended Bishop Noll Institute, Purdue University Calumet and Valparaiso University School of Law. He met his wife while attending Purdue Calumet and they have remained in the region where they started a family.


David started as a law clerk at the Law Firm of Schlyer & Associates in 1996, when the firm was located in Schererville. After obtaining law licenses in Indiana and Illinois, he remained at Schlyer & Associates as an attorney. With the untimely passing of Donald Schlyer in 2021, David inherited the law firm after his many dedicated years of service. He now has started a firm with David A. Wilson, who was also a former attorney with Schlyer & Associates.

Committed to Giving Back to the Community

David enjoys being active and giving back to the community.


For over ten (10) years David was the Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 45 in Crown Point, as well as the former District Chair for the Prairie Dunes District, and a former member of the Executive Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Calumet Council (now known as Pathway to Adventure Council). He is also a current Committee Member for Scout Troop 219G, in Munster, Indiana. He along with his wife, are proud parents of two (2) Eagle Scouts. He and his family are active at St. Matthias Parish, in Crown Point.


For nearly nine (9) years, David was an adjunct professor for Purdue Northwest (formerly Purdue University Calumet), teaching U.S. History and Introduction to Political Science. He is a former board member for the Hebron Little League, guiding them towards the construction of a new concession stand. 


David previously was a long time Board Member of the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce (formerly the Merrillville Chamber of Commerce), serving as their Committee Chairman for the Ambassador Committee and Landscape & Architectural Committee. 


David enjoys being active and healthy. He enjoys running and rucking. Many years he covers over 1,500 miles. He is an RRCA (Road Runners Clubs of America) certified running coach. He also likes to try and stay physically active by regularly working out with friends at F3, running, and participating in GORUCK events. Many times, you will find him on the trail at 5:30 am with his friends. You will recognize him as many times he is wearing a weighted backpack and carrying a sandbag. To help stay healthy, he is a longtime brand ambassador for Nuun, which is a company dedicated to keeping people hydrated.


In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, as well as attending his children's baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball games and their other activities.
